Deer - Abundance of both whitetail and mule deer. Success rate last year was approximately 70%. Turkey - Merriams, Easterns, and Merriam/Eastern hybrid birds are all plentiful. 75% of last year's hunters successfully bagged a gobbler.
Fishing Cub Creek Recreation Area (27 acres): Bass, Walleye, Crappie, Perch, Bluegill, Tiger Muskie, Catfish. 15 minute drive. Merritt Reservoir (3,000 acres): Walleye, Bass, Crappie, Perch, Catfish, Musky, Bluegill, Smallmouth Bass. Several state record fish in various species have been caught from Merritt. 60 minute drive. Refuge Lakes (Multiple lakes ranging from 200-800 acres) Unique Sandhills natural lakes, the Valentine Refuge Lakes are widely regarded as the state's best fishery. 60 minute drive. Keller State Park and Long Pine Creek: Keller has a variety of ponds within the park, with most ponds being fed by Long Pine Creek. Long Pine Creek is considered one of the premier trout fisheries in Nebraska. 30 minute drive.

Canoeing
The Niobrara River is undoubtedly home to the best canoeing opportunites in Nebraska. Over 100,000 adventurists enjoy the day-long canoe adventure down the Niobrara on an anuual basis. The Norden Valley Ranch can arrange shuttle service to Valentine, and pick up service from any of a number of canoe outfitters along the river. This relaxing activity is a great way to enjoy the pristine beauty of the river valley while sunbathing with friends and family. |

Valentine is the heart of Cherry County and home to a cozy main street filled with friendly merchants and good dining. Valentine has a public golf course, a National Wildlife Refuge, and a community park and lake. Located 9 miles north of Valentine is the Rosebud Gaming Casino. Have some fun on the slots or at the tables after a prime-rib buffet!!!!!!! If you want to stay closer to the ranch, old-fashioned barn dances are held in Norden every other Saturday night. |
